Belgrade or Beograd, which means “white city”, has about 1, 6 million inhabitants.
It is located in the South-East of Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula, at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe and since ancient times it has been an important traffic focal point, an intersection of the roads of Eastern and Western Europe.

Belgrade is a city easy to reach by plane, by train, by bus and by car.

Belgrade is a modern, multicultural European city, but also a capital of Serbian culture, education and science. It is a rapidly developing, warm-hearted city with a growing economy, famous for its hospitality and international spirit.

The city is very safe and visitors will always feel welcomed and comfortable both during the day and night. Belgrade is arguably the most vibrant and interesting city in the Balkans. An exceptionally wide spectrum of historical sights and cultural events is offered to visitors throughout the year.
There are spots one must definitely see and feel: streets, squares, monuments, parks, drinking fountains, archaeological sites and other cultural assets that deserve recommendation. Many nightclubs, bars and floating river clubs along the river banks makes Belgrade nightlife one of the most exuberant in Europe.

Belgrade is also the starting point for Serbia’s diverse landscape, featuring beautiful monasteries, wineries, farmhouse restaurants, ethno villages, spas, wildlife reserves, natural beauty and archaeological sites.

Currency

The currency in Serbia is the Serbian dinar (RSD). Notes come in 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 denominations, while coins come as 1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 dinars.
Currently (Feb. 2014) exchange rate is:
1.00 EUR     =   115.75 RSD
1.00 GBP     =   139.63 RSD
1.00 USD     =     84.90 RSD
but do check the latest rates at www.xe.com
You can either exchange your currency for dinars in numerous exchange offices located all over the town and in the Sava Centar or take the dinars directly from your bank account through ATM.
